James F. Ward, 73, of Sheridan died Friday, March 26, 1999, at his home.

At his request, services will be private at the family home.  Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ward was born June 20, 1925, in Parawon, Utah, to Frank and Mary (Green) Ward.

He grew up in Montana and graduated high school in Red Lodge, Mont.  He served in the Navy during World War II and then in the Korean Conflict.  He graduated from Montana State University and married Dorcas Ingalls Aug. 20. 1950, in Miles City, Mont.  He received his master's degree from the University of Wyoming, and taught school and coached sports in Montana until moving to Sheridan in 1960.

He was a guidance counselor at Sheridan High School until he retired in 1984.  He coached track and officiated basketball and football for several years.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He was past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge No. 520, and was a member of the National Education Association.  He was an avid fly fisherman, and enjoyed being outdoors and workig in his yard.  He enjoyed reading, and loved young people and his family.

Survivors include his wife, Dorcas, of Sheridan; two daughters, Kathleen Oropeza, Sheridan, and Tamra Ward, Cheyenne; a brother, Hal, of Billings; and two grandchildren.
